1. General information

1.1. Aims of the course

The main purpose is to train the students  to guide an intervention strategy. 
Learning Objetives: 
-Analyze resources facing intervention strategy (legal framework and social services)

-Identify social services main target users and the variables that define them as potential users.

  • Students should have knowledge about the introduction to social policy and social welfare systems

2. Learning goals

2.1. Competences

  • Understand public and private intervention in Social Services as a sectoral expression of social policy in contemporary welfare states.
  • Understand the framework  of the Spanish social services system, as well as the legislative delimitation and the scope of the different levels of public administration: state, regional and local.
  • Identify the conflicts and limitations between the different levels of the administration.

 

2.2. Learning goals

  • Student must  Know and understand the purpose and modes of provision of social services, as well as the general structure, organization and the main services and benefits of  public system of social service in both levels, state and regional.
  • Student  will be able  to detect the mechanisms of exclusion and discrimination in access to social protection, and to propose formulas to correct them.
  • Student  must  Know the subsystem of personal social services in Aragon.

2.3. Importance of learning goals

The learning outcomes allow the student

• Define the competences of the Spanish social services system at different levels of the administration.

• Identify the changes that may occur in any of the dimensions of the social services system.

 

It also help student to develop other personal competences aimed at developing:

• The ability to relate concepts

• Teamwork skills

• Communicative skills: both oral and written

3. Assessment (1st and 2nd call)

3.1. Assessment tasks (description of tasks, marking system and assessment criteria)

Student must demonstrate that he/she has achieved the expected learning outcomes through the following activities

  1. Continuous assessment system:
  • Theoretical-practical exam (T1: 50%; T2: 25%): exam usually takes place at the end of semester (second week january)
  • Team project presentation, the mentioned work will be related to the conceptual terms of the subject; student must demonstrate the knowledge acquired on theoretical and practical content in the field of social services organization (T6), (25%)
  1. Final term examination

(Only for those who have departmental approval) The dates are provided in the official call. The final term examination will consist of:

  • Theoretical-practical exam (T1: 50%; T2: 25%)
  • Individual project related to the conceptual terms of the subject. In the project, the student must demonstrate the knowledge acquired on theoretical and practical content in the field of social services organization (25%)

 Other details regarding this subject will be provided on the first day of class

4. Methodology, learning tasks, syllabus and resources

4.1. Methodological overview

 

 

Students are expected to participate actively in the class. The learning process that has been designed for this subject is based on the following activities:

  • Lectures (large group sessions):  oriented to show the theoretical contents, the analytical resources and their practical application. The classes will be interactive, facilitating the posing of questions, reflection and discussion of different positions.
  • Practice sessions (small group sessions): the diverse contents of the program will be approached through readings, search of documentation, elaboration of reports, etc. The schedule of the activities will be presented on the first day of the internship class (T2).
  • Group Project: A number of tutorials per project will be set.  Students have to elaborate a group project about a Social Services Center.

Unit 1: Introduction. Conceptual reflection on social services

Unit 2: Recent historical background of social services in Spain

Unit 3: Social services organization in Spain. Public system.

Unit 4: Current organization and perspective of social services in Spain

Unit 5: Social services in Aragon.

4.4. Course planning and calendar

  • Midterm Exams (11-15 noviembre) y (7-15 enero) 
  • Team Project Presentation(7-15 enero) 
  • Final Term examination: dates are provided in the official call.
